Today’s blog post is about one of my very favorite clothing boutiques in my hometown. I have been going to Monkee’s of the Village with my mom for as long as I can remember. She would take me only every once and while, so it was a treat to get to go! I loved looking at all the beautiful dresses, fun shoes, purses, and sparkly jewelry. I couldn’t wait until I could wear clothes from there one day.
A Little Bit About Monkee’s
Brenda Maready and Brenn Kennedy opened Monkee’s of the Village in 1997. Just six months before, Brenda had visited the first Monkee’s in Wilmington NC and immediately was inspired to open her own store in Winston-Salem. It became the first of the Monkee’s franchise. Originally just a shoe store, they began carrying clothing lines as well a few years later. Brenn, Brenda’s daughter, was finishing up her senior year at UNC-Chapel Hill when Monkee’s of the Village opened. She jumped right in to help her mom for they both shared a love for fashion. and they have worked together for the last almost 25 years!
The Ambassador Program
About a year ago, Monkee’s announced their Ambassador program on their Instagram account and I immediately was interested. I applied and was accepted as an Ambassador. I wanted to do it because of my love for fashion and to show that there are lots of cute outfits for girls my age there. Monkee’s of the Village carries outfits for all ages. Some of my favorite lines they have are: Crosby by Mollie Burch, Karlie, Jade, JoyJoy, Z-Supply, and Lilla P. These brands have many youthful items, and I always find something I love!
As an Ambassador of Monkee’s of the Village, I go into the store for a try-on every two weeks or so, and post on Instagram about the current dresses, tops, skirts, pants, shoes, and accessories. Their inventory is constantly changing so there is always something new to try-on. Monkee’s can use any of the pictures I take for their website or Instagram account. I don’t buy everything I try-on, but I do occasionally pick my top favorite and take that home with me. I always find something that I love! Whenever I wear an item from Monkee’s, I tag them in my Instagram post or story.
The Ambassador Program was a corporate store suggestion as a hope to reach different demographics. Because I am a 14-year-old trying on clothes and taking photos, I can show what their clothes look like on a teenager. It is beneficial for them to have more variety of ages when posting on Instagram or uploading new images to their website so people can see what the clothes look like on all ages. Monkee’s would like for the Ambassador Program to continue to grow and for more people to be involved. They would like to see more people tagging them on Instagram when they wear something from Monkee’s, so that they can go back, repost, and share. They want to share their beautiful customers wearing clothes from Monkee’s of the Village.
