Happy last day of August y’all! I started school a couple weeks ago, and I have been crazy busy. I am loving high school though! Here is my August book review. I read Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. It was definitely more of a deeper read, but I would totally recommend! It is written in free verse, so I was able to get through it pretty quickly.
Throughout the book we hear from two teenage girls’ perspectives, Camino and Yahaira. Camino lives in the Dominican Republic and looks forward to her father’s visits each summer. When she arrives at the airport to pick him up, she is met by crowds and crowds of crying people. Her father’s plane crashed, and there was not a single survivor.
Yahaira is pulled out of class to learn the devastating news that her hero, passed away in a plane crash. Her father was everything to her. They spent the school-year together in New York City, where they went on all kinds of adventures.
These two girls face a new reality that will change their lives forever. While handling grief, friendships, love, and dreams, will they choose to embrace this new reality, or avoid it?!
Such a good book! It is so moving, and discusses topics that are very relevant today. I have never read a book anything like this one! I would rate this book a 4/5.
